Canadian WWII Spitfire pilot and wounded war hero Wilf McLaughlin returns to his rural Ontario hometown after almost 2 years in rehab hospitals in France, England, and Burlington. His body may be permanently damaged, but Wilf is determined to get his law degree, join his father’s law firm, and rebuild his life. However, strange things begin to happen as soon as Wilf starts looking into the firm’s clients’ affairs. Bodies start turning up in mysterious circumstances. Is it just a coincidence, or did Wilf’s homecoming stir up some long forgotten resentments? This psychological thriller will keep you in your chair reading through until it’s done. A tour de force that will haunt you, if you let it.

Doom seems to hang over the book like a fog. No matter how Wilf tried to be normal, to get a life, to stop the visions of the past from haunting him he just couldn't seem to do it. First the past haunted him and then the present starts to howl as well. Wilf goes from being a hailed hero to a Jonah. I had to keep reading even though I had a feeling how it would end. The story was made even eerier each time they mentioned a trip to Brantford for a dinner or court or a movie, that all this could be going on so close to our small town at that time.
